But this does not need to be!
To think what these children can become if adopted into a home! The difference it would make to have a sister or a brother to show them how to be a regular kid! How physical therapy could bring this child mobility! A mother's prayers, a father's protection, and a community's care could bring these children in to the light!
If you are interested in bringing one of these little ones into your home, or would like to sponsor the child's care, I'd love to help you do so. Consider sharing this post on facebook so the word can get out.

Erika, Where can I find info about adopting from Burkina Faso? I don't think we will qualify but I want to look into it. Also is Christina's birth year right? She looks really long for 9 months. What agency has these kiddos files? We are almost done with an international home study for Bulgaria....but we lost the little girl with spina bifida who we were hoping to adopt :(
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, so sorry about your lost referral, that is heartbreaking. The agency is Adoption Advocates International. All the info about BF adoption you need is there. I agree about her looking long, but I think its just the perspective on the photo. Also, I can give you the email address for the American woman in Burkina who facilitates these adoptions- Ruth Cox. yakorphans@gmail.com I have to say I'm super excited that you are even considering this!
DeleteHi Erika,
ReplyDeleteWe are feeling very drawn to special needs adoption. But travel is a big issue...as we don't have any family in state. Also my husband takes meds for depression that makes us not eligible for many countries......so frustrating. So Bulgaria has pretty easy travel....two trips of 5-7 days and they are ok with meds. I will go on AAI's website and see what I can find out.
I think you may like what you find with Burkina. They make exceptions and I don't remember any issue with meds. Here is more good news, one trip and only one parent needs to travel- that is what we did!
DeleteThat is great news! I emailed AAI so I will keep you posted. How long did the process take you guys?
ReplyDeleteYes, please keep me posted! The whole process start to finish was just under 18 months, but you have a head start with your home study...
Deleteyes, we have our last home study visit next week. Just waiting for our finger prints to come back. I am not sure what is involved switching countries. It is a Hague home study. Burkino Faso is Hague right?
ReplyDeleteyup, it's Hague!
DeleteHi Erika,
ReplyDeleteWe are working with AAI, adopting from Burkina, and considering a waiting child who is 4 and sight impaired, and would really love to speak with you about your experience with AAI, in Burkina, and at home with your lovely daughter, Therese. To say that there aren't many families adopting from Burkina is an understatement. :) If you'd email me, I'd love to connect with you.
